Planned Giving

Planned gifts to the Seminole Historical Society - immediate outright gifts or deferred estate-based gifts of money or other assets - create extraordinary opportunities for both the donor and SHS. For the donor, planned gifts can provide tax advantages, help fulfill estate-planning objectives for both heirs and charitable organizations, complement lifestyle goals, and create a legacy. For SHS, planned gifts literally assure its future ability to preserve Seminole's past.

Tributes and Memorials

Donors can feel doubly satisfied that their gift will acknowledge a special person or event while also helping to further SHS's mission to collect, preserve, and share Seminole's history. SHS provides tribute and memorial gift givers with a contribution receipt, and acknowledges receipt of the gift, and the donor's thoughtfulness, to the honoree or other recipient designated by the donor. All gift amounts remain confidential.

The Charitable IRA Legislation

Make tax-free gifts from your IRA! On October 3, 2008, The President signed the "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008," which reinstates and extends certain tax law provisions that allow direct charitable gifts from Individual Retirement Accounts by anyone over age 70 1/2 to qualified organizations such as the Seminole Historical Society.

If you are required to receive minimum distributions from your IRA and you do not need the money for personal use, consider using those funds as a charitable gift. Contact your tax adviser today to find out more about this opportunity.
